StatSheet's C-USA Player of the Week for January 16th goes to Memphis's Will Barton. StatSheet's C-USA Freshman of the Week goes to Rice's Dylan Ennis. Finally, Memphis's Wesley Witherspoon has taken StatSheet's C-USA 6th Man of the Week. Barton registered 12.5 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. The Memphis sophomore marched the Tigers to victories versus Southern Miss and Houston.
Barton added 11 points and 4 steals in 36 minutes in a close 60-58 win over Southern Miss. He followed that up with a team-leading 10 rebounds plus an additional 4 steals in a huge 89-55 win over Houston.
This is one of four StatSheet C-USA Player of the Week awards for Will Barton. The runner-up this week is sophomore DeAndre Kane from Marshall. Honorable mention goes to sophomore Tarik Black from Memphis. The highest ranking player from Southern Miss was Angelo Johnson who finished 11th.
StatSheet C-USA Freshman of the Week: Rice's Dylan Ennis
Dylan Ennis averaged 31 minutes starting both games for Rice. He was number one among all C-USA freshmen in assists (5.0 per game). In a 68-52 win over Southern Methodist, Ennis registered 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Against Tulane, in a thin 50-49 win, he added 6 points and 4 assists.
This is the second StatSheet C-USA Freshman of the Week award for Dylan Ennis. Ahmad Ibrahim from Rice grabs runner-up. Honorable mention goes to Ricky Tarrant from Tulane.
StatSheet C-USA 6th Man of the Week: Memphis's Wesley Witherspoon
Senior Wesley Witherspoon, a 6-9 reserve forward/guard, averaged 14 minutes of action over the two games for the Tigers. In the win against Southern Miss, Witherspoon added 4 points and 3 rebounds. Then in the win over Houston, he racked up 9 points and 3 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet C-USA 6th Man of the Week honor for Wesley Witherspoon. Our own Johnathan Mills is the runner up. Our own Neil Watson earns honorable mention. Southern Miss has one StatSheet C-USA Player of the Week win this season.
