Everything fell into place in Hattiesburg as the Golden Eagles beat the Blazers, 59-55, in conference play.

This game was actually a little close, and Golden Eagles probably should have landed a bigger win. Southern Miss had a big advantage in RPI ranking (#12 to #192). The Golden Eagles home court advantage is distinct, and the Blazers were not playing well and had lost 3 out of 5. A year ago, Southern Miss went 1-1 against UAB. Going back four years, the Golden Eagles are 4-7 against the Blazers including 2-3 at Reed Green Coliseum. Since 1980, the Southern Miss record against UAB is 14-21.

The game came down to a big separation in turnover margin and a somewhat smaller advantage in free throw shooting.
